University of Oregon faculty are leaders in sustainability research, focusing on several of the most pressing sustainability challenges facing society, including: the reduction of carbon emissions through sustainable design; the social conflicts resulting from scarcity of resources and environmental injustice; the potentials of green technology and alternative energy; and the necessity for the integration of sustainable principles into the corporate landscape.
Additionally, the University has over 200 sustainability related courses, as well as, various internships and service-learning programs, which allow students to engage with faculty members in sustainability issues under a real-world context.
The UO has a number of opportunities for faculty to become involved in growing campus sustainability. Currently the Meyer Fund for a Sustainable Environment provides a source of funding for faculty projects that spark innovation in the field of sustainability.
